Shopping in the fortress

If you simply love to shop, there’s plenty to discover in the picturesque historic city centre, or as we like to call it, ‘the fortress’. The compact city centre has something for everyone. You can shop till you drop along the modern Gasthuisstraat and Hoogstraat streets with their chain stores, or take it up a notch at the chic Arkelstraat shopping area with its exclusive luxury shops housed in classic buildings. And there’s the trendy Langendijk street with its hip boutiques and concept stores behind well-preserved authentic facades. Or visit the vintage Burgstraat street offering pleasant shopping surprises. Westwagenstraat street is the place to go for a quick snack.

Or you can just wander through the streets and alleys of the historic city centre and discover lovely little shops offering antiques and curios. And when your legs need a rest, there are several areas with outdoor seating where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a meal, or a drink while watching the world pass by. And the real beauty is that it’s all within walking distance.
