Mini museum Radio Intercept Station Gorinchem
Contact
In 1955 (at the start of the Cold War) a special radio unit of the Dutch armed forces was stationed in the old fortified town Gorinchem. This was the 105 Radio-Reconnaissance Battalion.
For the civilians this looked as a normal Army radio unit; however this was a top secret radio-intercept unit, tasked with gathering Military intelligence out of interception of military radio traffic between units of the Russian army in Eastern Germany, the former DDR.
For this purpose, this unit used a radio-intercept station in Gorinchem and one at Vuren fortress. This unit changed its name a few times en left Gorinchem in 1967 as the 898 Radio Battalion.
This mini museum keeps alive this rat…

This mini museum keeps alive this rather small part of the long history of Gorinchem, by restoring, displaying and demonstrating the radio-intercept equipment as used in these radio-intercept stations and maintaining this equipment in good working condition. Thus presenting a good working radio-intercept and radio-triangulation station.
The mini museum occupies a room in community and youth centre De Aanlegsteiger and can be visited by making an appointment.
